Autism Friendly
Clonakilty was the first town in Ireland to be Autism Friendly. The West Cork Model Railway Village is an Autism Friendly Champion. Staff received training in order to become an Autism Friendly Champion. We have a Relaxation Box located at the Ticket Office for visitors to use. The Model Village is service dog-friendly.
Clonakilty Sensory Garden is located within the carpark of the Model Village. It was developed by Clonakilty Tidy Towns & Area Sports Group Community Employment Scheme. SuperValu Clonakilty sponsored the initiative. The Sensory Garden was developed to create an environment for children living with autism to play in a safe, secure and calming space. The garden features elements that appeal to all five senses using a range of materials and plants.
